There’s no denying it, Perth has an incredible brunch game. And while I tend to stick to my favourites, I do really enjoy trying new places too. So getting an invitation to check out Dalkeith’s Archie & Max Espresso was a nice excuse to get off my normal beaten track and enjoy something different.
It was a chilly morning the day we went to visit Archie & Max, so a table inside would have been perfect. But it was super busy so we braved the cold and sat out front, taking comfort in coffees and almond chais to warm us from the inside out.
The menu has your normal breakfast staples, but there is some nice variety too – which is where our eyes went immediately. My dining companion and I decided on a sweet and savoury dish so we could share and try more variety.
For the sweet, it was all about the berry buttermilk pancakes with apple and berry compote and pashmak. I was pretty excited to try this dish as I’d seen it on Instagram and it looked a real treat! In this case I think something might have gone slightly array with my dish as it looked different to what I’d seen online, and the texture of the pancakes was quite floury. Maybe an off day for their pancakes, or trying something new? It still had some delicious aspects like that compote, but I would have liked the pancakes themselves to be a little less dry.
The savoury dish was unbelievable though and something I’d go back for again and again. Spiced cauliflower scrambled eggs with yoghurt… be still my aching heart.
This was so good! Chocked full of flavour and the eggs were cooked to perfection – just the right balance of runny and cooked, while being buttery and decadent. I really liked how different this was, it wasn’t like anything I’ve tried before on a breakfast menu and shone.
A quick and easy breakfast with some highs and lows… but a truly unforgettable dish that I’m still raving about now.
