Bali is easily one of the most accessible and affordable holidays for Perthians. It’s only a few hours away by plane, luring us in with the promise of a relatively cheap and cheerful trip that boasts tropical weather, a burgeoning culinary scene and a party atmosphere.
For Jeremy and I it never quite held the appeal that other Asian destinations did, but recently we decided to see what the fuss was all about and headed there on a much needed vacation. We decided to attack it with one rule in mind – relax. So we booked ourselves an incredible private villa called Berry Armour in Seminyak and set about with a list of restaurants, a pile of books and a determination to spend some quality couple time together.
We ate at some pretty incredible places. Here’s the list of where we tackled:
- Motel Mexicola
- Potato Head and Kaum
And I have to admit, we were both really surprised by how great the food scene was there. It’s not as cheap as I’m sure it was back in the day, but the places we tried were all phenomenal. My favourite was definitely Mamasan, though Kilo and Kaum also really impressed me (particularly the latter with it’s dedicated sambal menu – yum!). For Jeremy, he fell head over heels for Motel Mexicola which shouldn’t have surprised me given his immense love for tacos.
From munching all day, relaxing in the sun and getting to know the locals – Bali was the perfect getaway. I guess it definitely was unexpected how much we would enjoy our time there but it was bliss. Daily massages, cocktails and quality time with my favourite person in the world.
Yes it’s loud. Yes it’s busy. But if you tackle it like we did where we spent lots of time in our villa, venturing outside to eat, it’s the ideal oasis. A fun and relatively cheap getaway that had us feeling completely relaxed by the time we got back to Perth.
