It’s baccccck! Yes, Eat Drink Perth has hit our great city this month for four weeks of foodie bliss. From prosecco laden brunches, to central markets or collaborations, there’s something for everyone. It’s a time of year that I get pretty excited about as we might be kissing summer goodbye, but the burden has definitely been eased thanks to tasty goods.
And while there’s lots to do during the day, I love that there’s events and offers that stretch right into the night. After all, who doesn’t enjoy keeping your evening going with a little cheeky tipple, a sweet treat or even a return back to savoury once your dinner has settled.
There’s two offers for this year that have particularly caught my eye as ones to cap my night off.
First up: that beautiful pink shipping container in Northbridge called Pretzel and their peanut butter pretzel. Sweet, salty and morishly addictive. YUP, this is good stuff. And considering you’ll get change out of a $10 note for this, it’s great value to gorge on (or soak up a few drinks with). Warm, addictive, and easy to transport over to the steps of the Perth Cultural Centre, it’s a good time.
Open late most nights, it’s the right mix of tasty treat with convenience thanks to its location and proximity to Perth and Northbridge.
My second pick is right up your alley if you’re wandering around the streets of Perth at night between 9pm-11pm Tuesdays to Thursdays. Andaluz (one of Perth’s old school hidden gems that I used to frequent very often once upon a time) have a $45 special that gets you a 1 litre sangria jar, plus a tasting board which has chorizo, croquettes, bruschetta and chilli. AMAZING VALUE!
The sangria is good. And by good, I mean really damn good. Fruity, sweet, and the red wine used doesn’t have that cheap nasty aftertaste you can get from some places. It goes down easy, and complements the accompanying food well.
The croquettes on the plate are my favourite for reasons I shouldn’t really have to explain (hello – cheese, hello – fried?!) but the chorizo also is a welcome addition as always.
The board is good for a light graze at night (even more incentive to stay out and continue adventuring during March evenings), and best of all Andaluz have an absolutely cracking menu that you can order more tapas from to enjoy. On my visit: the duck liver parfait on toast was phenomenal and the perfect addition. The pork with fried egg nice, but not as impressive as the rest. Washed down with a final whisky sour, it’s an ideal way to enjoy the last vestiges of warm weather at night before Autumn truly settles upon us.
It’s the 1st of March today and I’ve already had two of the nightcaps on offer. And I’ve got my eye set on many more: like the Night Noodle Markets at Elizabeth Quay (that rose watermelon cake better be coming back again this year!), the endless tapas at Laneway Lounge and of course cocktails at some of my favourite city bars.
Plus there’s some daytime activities and meals coming my way too. One notable addition to this year: the outstanding cheeseburger sausage roll at Joe’s. It is everything it sounds like and more. Meat, cheese, pickles. Ohhh damn it’s good.
Yes, this time of year is great. I love it. I love eating. I love drinking. I love this city Perth.
