From the talented team behind The Standard, and formerly Halfords, comes Perth City’s pub – The Royal. Refurbished and designed to the nines, it is a beautiful venue spanning across two stories, with a delicious menu on the drinks and food front.
Grab a casual meal and whet your whistle in their downstairs bar or on the balcony overlooking Yagan Square, or if you’re wanting to indulge they have a fine diner called Fleur which is ultra impressive.

The menu changes often, but it hits hard. I’m a big fan of their beef rolls with bone marrow on the side, and the prawns which have a zingy citrus dressing while retaining a little smokey char to them.
The burger is also excellent. Like really, really good. It has a thin disc of cheese wafer in it which is crunchy but utterly addictive – and the fries come coated in a firedust seasoning. It’s pub grub but oh so elevated, and I find myself back here time and time again.
And the drinks – they need a special shout out. There’s some lovely drops on the wine and beer list, but the cocktails are where I find the fun. Drinks like the aviation, south side and more: they’re all just what you want as you enjoy the afternoon breeze and watch people in Perth pass you by on foot below.
